Hi.
I am here to tell you all about the tour I just went on.
Here is a quick summary:
- A lot of people gave me/us free weed. Like...a lot.
- I decided to get "way more into" Bobby Brown and Peter Gabriel.
- Every show we played was amazing.
- Everyone we smoked weed with is the best person ever.
- People gave us a lot of free drugs.
- I smoked a lot of weed.
It was a little bit of a long tour.
I got my own car. Well, technically Nate owns the car, but it is a piece of shit anyway.
I got my own amp.
My friend Marisa played bass with me.
After I decided to start booking a month long tour I remembered I wasn't going with any other bands this time and I would have to do all the driving because Kayla doesn't drive.
And as some of you may know, I get tired.
Nate was going to come.
Then Max was going to come.
Neither of them could do it and with about a month to spare, I asked Marisa, who I had met once before, to do it.
She said yes!
Hooray!
So she flew to L.A. from NYC 4 days before our first show, and then all this shit happened. Well...what I can remember of it. Sorry. It was a long time ago.
March 4: Me, Nate, and Marisa drove from Los Angeles to Oakland. We went to Erica's house and smoked weed. Then we went to the show at the 1234 Go! Records store. I had never even been in there before! It was very small. BUT, it was a great show. A lot of awesome people came, almost all the hot dogs got eaten, and not one, not two, but THREE different people gave me weed. Max and I played "Tread on Me" together at the end of the show.
I love that song!
I felt very honored that my friend wanted me to be a part of the 4th Annual Uzi Rash Arts Show.
It was a very special occasion.
Matty and Kara came, and we all decided to go to "some party" after the show.
It was LAME!
Well, it was ok. But it was super crowded and shitty so me and my friends just stood on a staircase for like an hour smoking weed.
I pushed my way inside at one point and discovered more friends!
Lil C gave me a weed cupcake!
It was delicious. I was in a way better mood from that point on.
Then I think we just went back to Dan and Erica's and smoked weed and watched something really awesome on the TV and went to sleep. I am thinking, it was probably "Martin".
March 5: We were supposed to play in Reno, NV but the show got canceled so we just hung out in Oakland. I got to see my friend who I haven't seen in a really long time! We walked around the lake, ate pancakes, and smoked weed all day long. Then I went back to Dan and Erica's, but no one was there! So I just went to sleep. It was 9:00 PM.
March 6: It was cold and rainy. Nate and I got breakfast, then we picked up Kayla, then we went to Dan and Erica's to meet up with Marisa who had been with friends we don't know. We said goodbye and left for Ashland, OR.
It was cold! :(
But anyway, we got to this house party later on in the night and it was rainy and cold still.
There were a lot of kids there. They smoked weed with us and a nice girl gave me a weed caramel!
Our set was terrible due mostly to some kids trying to adjust levels on the PA that didn't need adjusting, causing really really loud awful feedback, causing everyone to leave the room in disgust, causing me to stop playing a song RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF PLAYING A SONG!
That is the first time I have EVER done that.
I was really, really mad.
But, that's what you get sometimes for playing house shows. They are the best, but they can truly suck shit as well.
I didn't want to be a diva or anything, but it was hard for me to contain my feelings. I felt a lot better after smoking a big joint and eating a free weed caramel though. That is for sure.
So yeah, that show was fun.
Then we went to this dude Patrick's parents' house, which was on the veryyyyy very top of a mountain. The house was huge and insane. We smoked a lot of weed and ate chili. Patrick showed us some videos of this funny metal band called
RATTLER, Kayla and I showed him some videos of MEAN JEANS, then we went to bed.
March 7: I woke up pretty early and it was snowing which really worried me. When I went to the car, the interior light was on and the battery was dead. So we had to jump it, and it took a really long time, and it was really cold and we kept having to walk up and down this god damn mountain. But finally we got it going! Well, Patrick and his dad did. And they gave us jumper cables too. And made us breakfast. How nice.
So we were like, HALLELUJAH! it started! Now perhaps we won't be late to the Portland show we are supposed to play tonight. Then, as I was trying to back down their driveway, I accidentally backed over the ledge and couldn't go anywhere. (We were on a mountain you guys.)
So I had to call Triple A to come and make the bad things stop happening.
They came right quick and heyyy! We were on our way.
We got to the Mudai Lounge in Portland around 8:00 PM. They gave us free Ethiopian food! We smoked weed in my car with Adam Garcia and his friend. The show was AWESOME, Mean Jeans and Nucular Aminals were amazing, and we got payyeeeeeeeed. Thanks Jose!
Then we went back to Bob D's house with Adam where we smoked weed and chatted and eventually fell asleep.
March 8: We woke up, smoked weed, hung out for a long time, and ate toast. We also got some free clothes! I got a really insanely thin brown t shirt and some long socks which I had been really wanting cuz it was cold as fuck and I only had a few pairs of socks. None of which were as long or thick as these. I really suck at packing sometimes. I think then we just drove to Seattle.
Seattle RULES!
We played at the Sunset Tavern and it was my first time meeting Ruben, Nick, Lacey, and Sarah who are sort of like my bosses but they fucking rule and are really nice to me and do drugs and now have done drugs with me. YAY!
The Calligraphers, which is Kim Warnick's new band, were supposed to play and pretty much set up the show.
But then they had to cancel and I was really sad :(
But Kim was still gonna come!
But she didn't :(
But Kurt Bloch was there which was amazing!!!
But I didn't get to meet him :(
Anyway.
The Pudding Pops were great. "The Passion of the Pops" is my favorite record to come out of whatever year it came out. I am not sure if it has come out yet.
We played ok. I was starting to get sort of bummed at this point because I was meeting people from my new label for the first time and I didn't want to have to share the spotlight. I still regret the fact that their first impression of Colleen Green was of a duo, because really, that's not what CG is and that's not what it's supposed to be. I wish I could have done the tour alone but I couldn't. On the plus side, I like the fact that I got to play different songs this time and that the experience was different for anyone who has seen me before, because the nature of CG is also supposed to be experimental. But in the end, Colleen Green is one girl alone on stage with a guitar.
But anyway, it was a pretty fun night. We hung out at Ruben and Lacey's with the Fergus and Geronimo boys and Kevin from the Pudding Pops and the Tacocat girls. We smoked a lot of weed and there were card tricks involved.
March 9: We woke up and ate breakfast. Then Ruben took us to the Sub Pop headquarters! It was so exciting, but at the same time I was very sad because even though I love Kayla and Marisa, I shouldn't have had to share that moment with them. I should have been alone. You know what I mean? That probably sounds way egotistical or something but it's how I felt. I felt like it was supposed to be a special thing for me, and it just wasn't. I walked down the hall 10 feet behind while Ruben showed stuff to my friends. I wanted to hang with him, but getting even a word in with all those people around was a near impossibility.
So that sucked.
But whattya gonna do.
Anyway, we ate really delicious Vietnamese food after that and then we went to pick up our buddies Spencer and Brian, who live in Olympia but who had been hanging out in Seattle and had come to our show. They asked me for a ride, so we picked them up in some parking lot somewhere and all went to Olympia. We played at the Google Image Church. It was a fun show! A very very strange band played after us though. I don't want to talk about it. Then Spencer took us to a really cool coffeehouse that looked like it was inside the bowels of a very old wooden ship! Then we drove back to Seattle and stayed at Ruben and Lacey's again. We smoked weed, watched TV, and went to sleep.
March 10: We woke up, it was raining and cold. We were to drive to Pullman, WA that day for a radio interview thing before our show in Moscow, ID.
So we did!
The girls who did the radio show, Andi and Kelsey, were so cute and nice and their friend Adam shot a pretty cool video of me playing "Worship You". I also played "Cujo" which is a new song from a new EP and answered a few questions, like "Have a lot of new boys been talking to you?"
(I answered no.)
Then we drove to Moscow which was about 10 minutes away. We hung out at Kentaro's house and ate some food. (Kentaro is the very nice boy who helped us set up a show in Moscow.) Then we went to the show at CRAFT House, which we later learned stood for CAN'T REMEMBER A FUCKIN' THING.
The house was this really old huge farmhouse and we played in the basement. A few minutes after my arrival, a boy emerged from a shadowy corner of the living room wielding a GIGANTIC joint and said, "Colleen Green?"
You know I said hi girl.
Then I told him I would find him later, that I would DEFINITELY find him later.
This show RULED!!!!
There were so many kids there and they were all really really excited.
Someone took this cool video of the party and it looks REALLY FUN:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l7HHhv5Z2Gc
Then we went back to Kentaro's house where we hung out, smoked weed and went to sleep.
March 11: We woke up very early in the morning and had to carry our stuff up veryyyyy very many stairs to go be on Kentaro's college radio show. It ruuuuuuuled though! We played "Mike" and "Nice Boy", I think. Maybe one more? If we did, it was "Worship You". And answered more interview questions, like "Do lots of boys come up and talk to you now?"
No, dammit. The answer is no.
So THEN, we went to Kentaro's work, which was a hippie grocery store, and we got some food. Then we went back to Kentaro's, ate the food, smoked weed, took a picture of ourselves smoking weed and then replaced his computer's background image with that, and then we drove to Caldwell, ID to play at Scott's Manor.
We got there around 9 or 10 and it was a good thing because apparently we were the last band and we were supposed to play next!!!
This show was sweet and the house was cool. Scott made us stickers. I ate a cinnamon roll with frosting. We even got our own room.
After we played we went down into the basement which had like a makeshift art gallery in it. We smoked weed and then there was some sort of ruckus upstairs, perhaps a fight or something? I don't remember.
Scott and his brother, it turns out, are extremely zealous dumpster divers and gave us a box of cookies because they had recently found a dumpster with a million boxes of cookies in it.
The cookies were SO FUCKING GOOD. I brought them to Utah with me!
Also, Scott's brother's favorite animal is the antelope. I bet you didn't know that.
March 12: We drove to Provo UT to play at The Compound. I would say that at this point in the trip, this was the stoned-est show. It was great to see Joey and Ned. We hung out in Joey's room for a really long time and smoked weed, apparently. All the bands this night were really great (Meth House Party Band, Glowing Head, Howitzer) and our set was really fun. The drum machine was making the refrigerator or something vibrate and it sounded like an extra instrument. Then after the show everyone left. Me and Kayla discovered CINNABON CEREAL and ate the rest of The Compound's supply. We smoked weed with The Meth House Party Band and went to sleep. AWESOME SHOW!
March 13: We drove to Boulder, CO. Most of our time on this tour, unfortunately, was spent in the car. But hey. Live n learn. The show was at The Goss House which is where I first met Marisa when I played there in August. (She lived there at the time.) The show was really good, Thee Goochi Boiz, School Knights, and Lust Cats were all great, some dude gave us a free 8th which was awesome, but I made the mistake of asking one of the dudes who lived in the house if there was "somewhere I could crash" and ended up having to avoid him all night because he assumed me asking him this meant I wanted to fuck him. Like, he really thought that. Guy wouldn't leave me alone! It was sort of funny and I mean it's not like I was really talking to anyone there. But like, oh, god, no. Eventually everyone left and Kayla and I slept in the living room. We may have watched "Blue Streak".
March 14: We ended up not getting a show in New Mexico so we decided to hang out in Boulder another day.
It was fun. Kayla and I went to Whole Foods, which is supposedly the largest Whole Foods in the entire country or some shit, but I didn't even think it was that big. But I guess they are gonna make it bigger. We walked around downtown Boulder, got new dresses, got coffee and hot chocolate (cuz it was cold!) etc etc. Then we met up with Marisa and Trevor and went to this coffee shop/bookstore where Tom from Thee Goochi Boiz works. He gave us free coffee and I got a pecan roll of some sort as well. YUM. I wanted a bagel, actually, but they didn't have a toaster! Figures. Uppity fucking assholes.
Kayla and I stayed at the Goss House another night, this night ACTUALLY thinking about it now, may have been the night we watched "Blue Streak".
March 15: Marisa took a bus from Denver back to Boulder and met up with us at The Goss House. Then her sister Desi came over. Desi was to come with us from Boulder to Austin and hang with us at SXSW. I'm pretty sure that at this point my car was dead on the street or something, because this was the day we decided to bring the car into the shop. The battery kept dying and the whole car had been shaking when going downhill and shit, so we figured we should get it taken care of since we were in a good place and had no show on the 16th. (Unfortunately I had to cancel this show in Amarillo TX. Sorry Joe Shmoe. You set up the show.)
Bad idea.
Well, it was an okay idea, but I went about it like a total and complete stoner so it sucked really bad.
They told me it needed lots and lots and lots of stuff done.
I'm not one to immediately trust a car man, or anything like that, but we didn't have TOO much time, and my main concern was having a car that was safe and reliable enough to get me and my friends to Boston.
So I told them to ONLY do the things that were necessary in order for us to get across the country.
Without thinking to ask how much that would cost.
No time to get a second opinion.
$1120 later we had a fully functioning car (whose battery, we would later find out, still dies.)
They charged me over $100 an hour for labor. Is that normal?
I hate them.
ANYWAY, after dropping my car off, still blissfully ignorant, we went to Desi's boyfriend's house and vaporized weed. Which was nice. Then I think we went to Desi's house and drank green tea and the car men called and told me how much it was going to cost me if I ever wanted my car back and I cried.
So then Desi dropped us off in Denver where we hung out with Trevor from Thee Goochi Boiz. We met his mom. She was blonde and really nice. She loves the movie "MacGruber". We walked around a bunch, went to some ice cream place, went to some bar/restaurant, I got a ham and cheese sandwich even though I didn't even want one, and it SUCKED! It was weird, I mean. To some, it may be a great sandwich. But not to me.
Then we all went to Marisa's friend Christine's apartment. She had a really cute apartment and a really fucked up old as fuck cat who apparently just died. This cat was creepy, guys. I am telling you.
Tom from TGB was there and we sat around for a while. I was really depressed so I didn't really talk at all, but I smoked weed. Trevor brought up the fact that his brother likes to eat fried eggs on top of zucchini bread, and there were mixed opinions on this, but Christine happened to have just made zucchini bread so we had to try it. The verdict?
INCREDIBLE.
Then everyone left, including Christine, and it was me and Kayla's apartment. Yay!
March 16-17: I woke up and cried a lot more because that was the day I actually had to pay the terrible car men.
I ACTUALLY had to give them over a thousand of my dollars.
Lousy fuckers is what they is, and that's all that they is.
I'm also dumb though. Gotta give credit where it's due. You understand.
So Marisa and Desi came to get us, we picked up my car and set off for Austin, where we were scheduled to play the Hardly Art/Art Fag Showcase at around noon on the 17th.
We left in the afternoon and had about a 17 hour drive ahead of us.
More outlandish feats have been achieved, I'm sure.
But we were in the car for a really long time.
I drove for 10 hours.
But we made it!!!!
We drove straight to the show at The Shangri-La. As we walked up to the outdoor stage Heavy Hawaii was playing and they all shouted "COLLEEN!!!"
It was a wonderful greeting.
I love them.
Their vocals drive me crazy.
So, this show was really fun. We played about 20 minutes after arriving, and it was rad. We smoked a lot of weed and hung out in the sun all day. We met up with Brian Clark who was to accompany us on the rest of our journey. I saw a lot of friends.
I did an interview with Sailor Jerry. It was dumb and my muscles were going crazy so I probably sounded really weird.
I met a girl from Japan who wanted to take a picture of me for her website. She also told me that a lot of terrible things are happening in Japan right now, and asked if I could write one word on her notepad for her to take home.
I wrote "POSITIVITY".
It was the best word I could come up with.
I think on this day, I also walked to the Museum of Art with B. Clark and our friend Chris V., Dace was there for some reason printing prints. And! My friend Eric and his girlfriend were there! It was crazy and awesome to run into them.
Then we went back to The Shangri-La I think? Ruben was going to be there for another show that was happening after ours. I will be honest I really have no clue what else we did on this day after the show we played. It was a long day and I really had only gotten less than an hour of sleep the night before.
But I do know that we got to sleep in a really fancy hotel room that night and had a whole room to ourselves with a bathroom, refrigerator, tv, and all the pillows and blankets we could ever ask for!!!!
(Kayla had gone off earlier in the day with some friends and ended up having to sleep alone on a cold, hard floor with no blankets.)
March 18: We played at Cheer Up Charlie's during the day as part of the Altered Zones showcase. The Religious Girls were there - or maybe it was the Summer Blondes? - and I got a really cool long plaid dress. This show WAS AWESOME! It's really fucking fun to play outside, it was a gorgeous day, and we were right on the street. At one point even Heavy Hawaii stumbled in!
Then we walked around, ate food, and even saw a few bands including Mean Jeans! Yeah!
We smoked weed and hung out with friends in the sunshine all day long, and I was high on drugs.
It was so nice to be in Austin.
At night, we went to Red 7 for the Sub Pop/Hardly Art OFFICIAL SHOWCASE!!!!!
I was really really really excited for this show and with good reason.
We got to open the show and our set was super fun.
There were a million people there.
I got to meet the president of Sub Pop, Jonathan, and he told me he really liked my music and that our show was incredible. :D :D :D
I got to see a little bit of J. Mascis and Obits. I don't know who else I watched. I was extremely high.
Hunx and his Punx were my favorite though.
The girls' vocals sounded like memories.
Everyone was in a really positive mood and this show was unbelievable.
And TWO of my cousins came with their husbands! How sweet. They are not really into music, but it was pretty awesome to see them there, and they were really proud of me.
We were all really tired though so we went back to the hotel after the show and went to sleep. (Until Lacey woke me up at 4 am to ask if she could use my bowl and then I smoked weed and stayed up for a bit with her, Sarah, and Tim. Lacey was being extremely hilarious and told us that she felt crazy and weird like a butterfly.)
I will never be able to put this emphatically enough, but I LOVE HARDLY ART.
I feel so incredibly lucky that they not only found me but liked me and have been repping me so hard.
I feel like CG + HA is the perfect fit and I am really excited to be representing them as well.
I can't wait to make more records for them.
And more and more.
I have ideas.
Anyway.
March 19: We had a daiye show at End of an Ear Records. It was pretty good, but I lost my voice and had a little trouble singing. This was a pizza party with free pizza, but for some reason when I went to get pizza there was none left because all these CIVILIANS that came to the show ate it all.
God I hate civilians.
I was so hungry I puked.
Then me and Kayla and Eric went to get breakfast tacos. But the place we went to, the one with a huge sign saying BREAKFAST TACOS, was out of breakfast tacos. So we went to some bakery and I got a donut and maybe a breakfast taco? I don't remember. Yeah I think that's what it was. At any rate, that donut was hella goooooood and Kayla has a picture of me eating it.
Then we went back to the show, hung out for a bit, went outside and smoked weed near my car, and then we went back to the hotel. THIS was the day we used the pool. most def. Except, I didn't go in, I just dipped my feet in.
Then at night we played the Art Fag/Impose showcase at the Longbranch Inn.
This mighta been my favorite show of SXSW.
There were tons of awesome people there, my cousins came AGAIN! even though they know I'm a stoner now. Oh well. I can only be me.
All the bands (except the one that played before us) were so good.
I loved Dum Dum Girls and Dirty Beaches.
I was blown away by DB.
I remember at The Shangri-La, at one point during the day, I looked out into the crowd and saw Alex from DB combing his hair.
It nearly killed me.
This show was really fun and as always, I love hanging with Mario and the Heavy Hawaii crew.
They are all so nice.
(I feel the same way about Art Fag, btw, as I do about Hardly Art. How did these rad as fuck people find me? And why are they SO nice to me? I have been thinking about this and I want Kristen and Brandon to adopt me.)
It was also sorta sad cuz they thought that was gonna be the last time they saw me for a really really long time.
But they were wrong so it's cool.
So after the show we decided to do drugs. I called my friend Lew and he told us that he was at this weird hardcore show in a warehouse somewhere. So he picked Kayla up and brought her there cuz originally she was just gonna pick up. But then we were like, NAH LET'S HANG! So we all went to the warehouse place to meet her and Lew. ("We all", btw, is me, Marisa, and Eric.)
I love Lew and it was awesome to get to hang with him. We sat in an unlocked car outside and did key bumps for a while. Then we met up with B. Clark and went back to the hotel where to our surprise, Ruben and Kevin were hanging out! IN OUR ROOM!
I forgot to mention that there was a huge dining room table in the room, so we all sat around that all night long and did drugs and talked about things.
Literally all night long.
That's what you do though I guess.
At around 10 am or so I tried to go to sleep, but B and Ruben were both snoring SO FUCKING LOUDLY, plus I was like...really high. so I found someone's laptop and headphones and listened to Colleen Green and The Cars for a couple of hours. Musta been Ruben's computer. I dozed off a bit but really did not sleep.
Perfect way to say goodbye to SXSW.
March 20: We had a show that night in Shreveport, LA, but due to 3 accidents on our route, it took us 11 hours to get there instead of 6 and we missed the show. But come to find out, the show had like 10 bands on it, so maybe it all worked out for the best. We went inside, played with a few balloons, talked to the old dude that owns the joint, kept driving for a couple of hours and found a cheap motel. We also went to Waffle House where our waitress refused to bring me my coffee which I could see behind the counter just out of reach, and then her and some other bitch ass waitress decided it would be fun for them to stand over our table the entire time we ate and talk about their extremely uninteresting lives.
Oh my god I hated them so much.
"Can you please take this coffee off my bill?"
"Oh....you don't want it?"
"You never gave it to me and now I am done eating and I am about to leave."
March 21: We woke up in some really weird town in LA. We got coffee and bagels and headed to Oxford MS. We got to the Cats Purring Dude Ranch in Oxford MS in the early evening. This house is down a dirt road and used to be some sort of summer camp, or part of one or something. I want to live here. Within ten minutes of arrival the man of the house, Dent, told us he and his roomie had just bought tons of weed and would we like to smoke some. Yes, we said. Then we went to the store and bought a bunch of stuff to make dinner. We went back and made pasta with veggies and bread. IT WAS SO GOOD! We also bought more Cinnabon cereal. It turns out though, that shit just doesn't taste as good when it's not someone else's stuff.
The show was really fun but at this point I had completely lost my voice so my vocals maybe sounded a little weird. It wasn't too bad though.
I sat on a really comfortable couch and I wanted to sleep on it so bad that night, and I tried, and I was there first, but then some wacky guy came in and decided to sleep in that room too, which was a big hall-like room, and he immediately started snoring and it was very loud and it echoed and I hated him and I had to move to a different room where people were up all night watching youtube videos.
It didn't bother me as much as the snoring man though.
March 22: We woke up and hung around a bit and headed to Auburn, AL. Patrick, who set up the show, invited us to his house first to eat food and stuff, but none of us was really hungry, and the guy made all this seafood, which I hate, and I felt bad for not eating it but the guy who made it was old and weird and weirdly arrogant so I didn't feel too bad about not eating it. Also at one point he mentioned something about "needing to get all the blacks out" and "getting them back to Africa" or something and then the next thing I knew he was standing in the corner playing the recorder with his back to us.
We got to meet the Slutever girls, who are rad, and Patrick's girlfriend Shaunna made both bands RAD buttons!
We played at The Compound which was just like a carport underneath an apartment building. But the weather was gorgeous and I was happy to get to play outside again. Everyone there was really nice and the show was short and sweet. Then we went back to Patrick's house (after getting hassled by the cops) hung out for a while, and eventually went to sleep.
March 23: We woke up, ate some toast and drank some coffee, went to a bookstore/cafe that had wi-fi because B. Clark left his wallet at a gas station in LA and had to take care of some emergency business. I got a really cute kids' book in French called "La maison tete de pioche". I don't understand too much of the story, but I have discerned that it is about a house that TALKS!!! Kayla said that book sounded right up Marisa's alley, because earlier she had made a comment that she "always wishes buildings would talk to her".
Oh anyway! We played in Gainesville FL that night. The show didn't start til around 10:30 so we hung out with our friend Ryan at his house beforehand. We chatted some and talked about Oakland. Then we went to the show at the Junkyard. It was super fun! We played with three bands who were all EXTREMELY loud and noisy. I don't think anyone there wanted to like us, but they did!
It was really cute, actually.
Everyone there turned out to be really nice and we basically sat at a picnic table all night smoking weed and talking.
The dude who runs the Junkyard, Keith, was awesome and he gave me a bunch of weed cookies that some crazy man gave him and they were really, really disgusting. They were super dry and tasted like baking soda. I hated them. But they got me hiiiiiigh! Thanks Keef!
I really liked this show.
Then we went back to Ryan's and ate pizza. I spilled pizza on my green dress.
March 24: We woke up and went to downtown Gainesville to get food. We found a delicious sandwich shoppe where at least half of the staff had huge dreadlocks. They were playing "The Reflex" by Duran Duran which happens to be my favorite Duran Duran song. So that made me very happy. Then we headed to Columbia, SC.
We got there sorta early and hung out with the woman of the house, Jessica, who is amazing btw.
She was pet sitting two puppies and they were both very very cute!!!
We walked to FOOD LION to get dinner stuff. We decided to make salad, but once we got back to the house I started feeling extremely shitty and could not eat. The show was pretty ok and our set was really fast. Jessica broke a bunch of dishes on her floor during her band Dawn Shredder's set and I got 4 cuts on my legs and one bruise which for some reason hurt really bad!
Some dude gave me acid in exchange for my tape. Still waiting for the right day...
I met a boy who looked like Mark Ruffalo and he told me he had been sent to the show by his friend from Portland who told him that I was a babe and he should smoke me up. But he didn't have any weed! How absurd!
Jessica's other band Haus Werk played and it was their first show ever! (She had told us about this band earlier in the day, and that they all wore aprons, and we just really wanted to see them. So they played.) We made them play the puppy song 5 times in a row. It ruled.
March 25: We did not have a show this day so we decided to visit Kayla's sister Lauren in Chattanooga TN. It was rainy and cold! But, Lauren and her boyfriend have an insanely cute puppy named Gordie Howe. So that was good. She made us a very healthy meal which I did not eat. I was so tired I just wanted to sleep. So I did, and I even got my OWN room so no one could wake me up with their snoring.
March 26: Lauren made us DELICIOUS pancakes and I drank tea and we hung out. Then we set off for Cincinnati. It was very cold and it was snowing. We played at this bar called Mayday which was cool because the sound guy smoked us up and we got to eat extremely cheap hot dogs with PRETZEL BREAD buns!!! AND, we could get whatever we wanted on the hot dogs. I got a hot dog with ketchup and mustard and a pickle spear and chippies. It was really good. Although in retrospect I wished I would have not gotten the mustard. I don't even like mustard! I just wanted to live it up a little, you know?
Anyway, this show was really good. I didn't think there was going to be anyone there but in fact there were a LOT of people there. There was a really comfy upstairs lounge with big couches too. The bands we played with were really terrible though and one of them even covered "Sultans of Swing" by Dire Straits. Like...WHO DOES THAT? Me and Kayla laughed. Also one of their merch items was a book of poetry written by the singer for $10. We ended up staying at Waffles's friend Chad's house, which also happened to be inhabited by a crazy lady with a baby. There were lots of portraits of her parents everywhere, individually, which had been taken at a professional studio.
March 27: We woke up and screamed WE GOTTA GET OUTTA HERE!!! And that's exactly what we did. We went to a really good diner somewhere in Cincinnati and I got french toast. Then we headed to CHICAGO!!!! Which is always one of my favorite places to play and visit. It was REALLY COLD! But at least it wasn't snowing. We played at Hallowed Ground in Wicker Park with Slushy, Tyler Jon Tyler, and Dead Ghosts. All the bands were great and the house was SO COOL! We smoked weed and made friends with Dead Ghosts. Marisa and Kayla decided to go party with them after the show, while Brian and I opted to go hang out at my friend Joey G's house in Andersonville. Joey just moved and his new apartment is really nice and cute. He is such a good boy. We hung out, drank tea, ate some snacks, and watched "Freaked".
It was really fun.
March 28: I woke up and watched "Jawbreaker". Me, Joey and Brian went to pick up Kayla and Marisa and we all went to breakfast at this place called Earwax. It was really good and after breakfast, we got shakes! Me and Brian split a coconut almond shake and it was to die for. Then we went back to Joey's house, said our goodbyes, and headed to Detroit. We played at PJ's Lager House and it was awesome! There was even an old sleepy dog in the basement! PJ really liked our set, too. He was old. The other bands were all really, really weird. Then we went back to my friend Auchie's house and hung out. We watched a movie but I forget what.
March 29: I was awoken by Auchie whispering to me, "Colleen....here's every NOFX cd." WHAT A GUY. Then he and his roomie left for work. We got our shit together, lit off a very small firework on the sidewalk, scared an old man, I saw a hot punk riding his bike, and then we headed to Columbus OH. We arrived at Carlo's apartment before the show and hung out with him and his roomies. They were really cool. Then we went to the show at The Treehouse. The main novelty of The Treehouse is the fact that there is a damn tree growing right the fuck through the middle of it. This place was really cool. Carlo's band played after like 7 years of not playing and they were good. I decided I was going to wear my sunglasses all night long, and I did a pretty good job of it, but it didn't last. I probably forgot. After the show we went back to Carlo's and smoked mad weed and laughed a bunch.
March 30: Carlo took us out to breakfast at his place of employment, I forget what it's called now though. But it was good. THENNNN we headed to Harrisonburg VA. We left Columbus way later than we should have but oh well. There was also tons of traffic so we didn't get to the show til around 11:30. But luckily they still let us play and kids actually were still there to watch us! It was in a very small apartment, but it was fun. Then band time was over and I played DJ with someone's ipod that they had just left out. It had a lot of shitty music on it but I managed to DJ Dum Dum Girls and Violent Femmes. Then we went to this kid's house and it was incredibly cold. We smoked a few bowls and he gave us free 2ce. How sweet! Then we went to sleep.
March 31: We woke up and again, wanted to GTFO because it was just so cold and destitute. We got ready to leave and the car wouldn't start. B Clark was driving and he seemed to be having trouble with it so we went back inside, woke a dude up, and asked if we could attach our car to his using our jumper cables. While we were waiting for him, I went back outside and decided to try the car again and it started! Sometimes you just have to give it time. And be me. So then we set off for SILLY PHILLY!!! We had a show at the Unholy Trinity House, which is one of my favorite houses. Four stories of utter delight. Maybe more! The show was rad although we missed the first/only other band. Doty and Kellzo and Michelle came! I love them very much. After the show was over we walked to a place that is like a liquor store but they also have delicious things like chickie nuggies. I got some of those and onion rings. I was hungry. They were so good. We went back to Doty and Kellzo's, a few of them dropped acid and Kayla and B ended up taking the 2ce as well. Slutever came over, we all hung out for a while, and then I went to bed.
April 1: We woke up, hung out, etc. Then we went out to breakfast at this fancy place with Michelle. It was good. Then we drove to New Jersey! We had a show at The Alamo in New Brunswick, but we went to CJ from Big Eyes's house in Highland Park beforehand. He had ordered a bunch of pizza but Marisa was the only one who ate some. Oh actually, I ate an incredibly small slice that I created myself out of a much larger slice. We watched Beavis and Butthead for a bit and headed to the show. Josh Hoey was there! It was so great to see him! It's been a long time, but he is an old friend from Boston. He made us this really delicious quinoa stir fry with pineapples, peppers, kale, and a buncha other hippie shit in it. I felt like a real hippie turning down pizza in favor of quinoa salad, but I needs my vitamins too.
Then Marisa, Kayla and I went to my car to smoke weed. I felt like I was going to shit my pants, and I really hate that, so I decided to go take a shit next to the steps of a church that was across the street. It was the perfect spot! But my ass still got really cold. It was my first time ever shitting outside.
It was fun!
Tiring though, a little.
So the show was AWESOME, all the bands were great. Two songs into our set, someone got pulled over on the street outside and we had to stop playing just to be on the safe side. But it ended up taking FOREVER because this chump had a record or something and got arrested hard. But eventually, they hauled him off to the clink and we resumed playing. This show ruled! There is a really good video of us playing "Mike" from it, too.
Then we all went back to Josh Hoey's house where we ate food, smoked weed, avoided cats, and went to sleep.
April 2: Josh made us breakfast and then went to work. We smoked weed and lazed about for a little while, then we decided to get the fuck to New York! We arrived in Manhattan and went to Marisa's aunt and uncle's loft on W 17th St. I got a parking spot right outside! The loft was incredible, and empty cuz her aunt and uncle have been on vacation for the past like 3 months and she has just been living there. We went to the Donut Pub. I ate donuts and an egg and cheese sandwich on a ROLL - yum.
We walked around a bit.
We smoked a lot of weed.
Then we went to the show at Death by Audio. We played first and the entire show was AMAZING! Jeff is one of my new favorite bands. I met and talked to a lot of really cool people this night. At one point me, Kayla, and Brian walked/took the subway to another bar to buy drugs and weed. Then we took a cab back to the show just in time to see Jeff play. It was so perfect!!!
A lot of friends came to the show and it was super super fun. Then we decided to go to some dance party somewhere and the minute I got there I regretted it. After a little over an hour, I decided to leave for real and so me, Marisa, and our friend Andy went back to the loft where we smoked weed, watched Chappelle's Show, and went to sleep.
April 3: We hung out at the loft all morning and then when it was time, we went to Willimantic, CT to play our second to last show. But when we got there, no one was home! There was one light on, so we went inside but no one was there. We all used the bathroom, ate a few pickles, said "fuck it, let's go to the Sunset Grill!" and that is what we did. I got mashed potatoes and wings. It was really good. Then we went to Kayla's brother Joey's house in Brighton where some people were hanging out. We smoked weed for a while and then went to sleep. Actually, to be honest, I did not sleep a wink due to Brian Clark's snoring. I even took a Zoloft! But it was ok. I didn't mind.
April 4: We all went to Bagel Rising and it was ok even though they only had like 5 bagels left. We hung out at Joey's and went to the show at Zuzu that night.
It was really fun. I don't remember too much about it other than that You and Yr Pointy Ears was good, I was stoned, and I conversed a bunch with my friends Spenser and Eric. I don't remember what we did after though! I'm sorry!
And that is the end of my tour blog.
